Brian Smith is a human resources practice partner at Raben, where he is responsible for working with specific practice areas and aligning HR strategies and initiatives with the firm’s values in order to support and improve employee relations, talent management, and organizational development. He also serves as a strategic partner to managing principals, and provides guidance and expertise on HR matters such as recruitment, performance management, employee engagement, and compliance with labor laws and firm policies.

While at Raben, Brian has worked on various projects and events that have amplified the firm’s impactful outreach to communities of color, including the Annual Celebration of Fannie Lou Hamer, The March on Washington Film Festival, and PASOS. He had previously been in charge of helping Raben execute and manage contracts for the firm’s client engagements and also provided added capacity to the firm’s HR functions by supporting recruitment, benefits administration, and professional development needs.

Before joining Raben, Brian was a rehabilitation assistant at Howard University Hospital, where he coordinated schedules for physical therapy services and educated patients and family members regarding diagnosis, prevention, and therapeutic treatment. He previously interned with Newland Financial Services, where he created financial literacy portfolios for its clients. He also interned and served as a training facilitator with the Prince Georges County Department of Corrections.

Brian holds a bachelor’s degree from Howard University and a master’s degree in Human Resources Development from Bowie State University. He enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and two sons in his spare time. Brian is also a lifelong, diehard fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes football team.
